What the new CTE law will mean for Employers.

Opportunity America prepared a short summary of what the new CTE law, HR 2353, The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, will mean for employers.

Senate Passes Perkins CTE Reforms

The US Senate passed HR 2353 with an amendment on a voice vote on September 23, 2018.  The text of the bill is attached below.  In large part, the bill is based on the earlier House-passed legislation.  The bill with the amendments included by the Senate now goes to the House for final action and then to the President for his signature.

Perkins CTE Reauthorization Passes Senate HELP Committee

The US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions met on June 26th to mark up Perkins CTE.  Chairman Alexander (R-TN) offered a Bipartisan Chairmans Amendment drafted with Ranking Member Murray (D-WA), and Senators Enzi (R-WY) and Casey (D-PA).  The amendment passed unanimously on a voice vote.  No date has been set for action by the full US Senate.  The markup can be watched at Perkins CTE Markup

Statement from Chairman Alexander and Ranking Member Murray on the June 20 HELP Executive Session

 WASHINGTON, June 15, 2018 — Senate education committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today released the following statement regarding the postponement of the committee’s Executive Session scheduled for June 20:

“We have announced an Executive Session for June 20 for a series of important bills and nominations. Our goal is bipartisan agreement on the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and we are making significant progress toward that goal. Because Sen. Alexander will be managing the Energy and Water Appropriations bill on the Senate floor next week, we have agreed to postpone the June 20 Executive Session to Tuesday, June 26 or Wednesday, June 27 at a time to be determined.”
